Digital X-rays

Dr. Mettler holding a digital x-ray of a patient at Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry Dental exams are a critical part of maintaining a healthy mouth. Routine dental exams allow us to spot oral health issues in their earliest stages, enabling us to provide you with treatment before they become more serious. If you are experiencing specific symptoms, exams allow us to determine the cause of your symptoms to provide you with effective treatment. There are many components to your mouth, however. While there are many components that we can see, there are also many we cannot. At Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry, we are able to see these hidden components with digital X-rays.

Why Are X-Rays Important?

X-rays are an essential part of helping you to maintain the health of your mouth. These images allow us to see the hidden components, enabling us to spot issues in their early stages before symptoms appear as well as diagnose the cause of the symptoms you are experiencing. We can see between your teeth as well as below your gum line, areas that we would never be able to examine otherwise. X-rays allow us to see:
•  Cavities in between your teeth.
•  Root damage.
•  Damage to your jawbone as well as bone loss.
•  Cysts and abscesses.
•  Impacted teeth, both wisdom teeth and otherwise.
•  Jaw tumors.

Digital X-Rays

For decades, X-rays were taken using radiation. Today, digital X-ray technology enables us to take images of your mouth using electronics. To capture your images, we place an electronic sensor in your mouth. The sensor is connected to a computer. With the click of a button, we capture an image. Where traditional X-ray images require time and a dark room to develop, digital X-ray images are displayed almost immediately on the computer monitor. We never need to leave the room.

The Benefits of Digital X-Rays

Digital X-rays provide several substantial benefits. These benefits include:
•  Reduced radiation exposure. Radiation is a major concern of many patients when it comes to X-ray imaging. Digital X-rays rely on electronics to capture your images. Your radiation exposure is reduced up to 95%.
•  Images are displayed almost instantly. Instead of needing to develop your X-ray images in a dark room, your images are displayed almost instantly on a computer monitor.
•  More accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans. After taking your images, we are then able to use specialized software that enables us to manipulate the images in some different ways. We can zoom in on specific areas of your X-rays and enhance the image for clarity. We can also change the coloration of the images. All of these features enable us to spot the smallest details of your mouth so that we can provide you with the most accurate diagnoses and the most effective treatment plans.
•  Because we do not need to take the time to develop your X-rays, more of your appointment is spent with you. We can take the necessary time to go over your images so that you understand your diagnosis. We can discuss your treatment options and answer any questions that you might have so that you are confident in your treatment plan.

With digital X-rays, we can see the hidden areas of your mouth, helping to provide you with a more accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. For more information, and to schedule your next appointment, call Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry today at (623) 562-5230.
