Laser used for laser dentistry at Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry Technology is constantly evolving. Advances in dental technology have come a long way, greatly improving the quality of care that we can provide. We can provide more accurate diagnoses and formulate more accurate treatment plans, allowing us to improve the outcomes of your treatments as well as your satisfaction with your care. At Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry, we take pride in using many of the latest dental technologies, including laser dentistry.

What is Laser Dentistry?

Laser dentistry is a type of treatment that involves the use of a dental laser to perform a wide array of different procedures. A dental laser involves the use of a concentrated beam of light, no thicker than a human hair. The wavelength of the laser is adjustable, which allows us to perform several different tasks. We can cut soft tissue, tooth structure, and bone. The laser can also be used to help stimulate the growth of new tissue.

How Can Laser Dentistry be Used?

Dental lasers can be used to perform some different tasks. These include
•  Teeth whitening. A laser can enhance the effects of in-office whitening procedures, providing you with incredible results.
•  Gum disease treatment. Lasers can remove infected tissue, disinfect periodontal pockets, and stimulate the growth of new tissue.
•  Cavity treatment. With a laser, we can eliminate decay from a cavity. Because a laser is so accurate, we can preserve more of your natural tooth structure.
•  Root canal therapy. A laser can disinfect the interior of a tooth.
•  Soft tissue biopsies. A laser can remove a portion of soft tissue for closer examination under a microscope.

What are the Benefits of Laser Dentistry?

Laser dentistry offers several significant benefits. These benefits include
•  Accuracy. A laser provides pinpoint accuracy, allowing us to target and remove only the tissue that is necessary.
•  Reduced bleeding. The laser cauterizes tissue as it cuts, reducing bleeding.
•  Reduced tissue trauma. This reduces pain and swelling during recovery, which can aid in shorter recovery times.
•  Helping those with dental fears and anxieties. Fear and anxiety about pain and dental treatments can keep many patients from getting the treatments they need. However, because the laser reduces bleeding, pain, and swelling, it can greatly help those with fears and anxieties get the treatments they need when they need them.

Is Laser Dentistry Safe?

While still fairly new in the dental world, laser dentistry is very safe. It is just as safe as performing treatments with traditional instruments. Just like traditional instruments, however, there are still some risks that are associated with this treatment. One of these risks is that the laser can cause damage to your eyes. We provide you with special glasses to wear during your procedure that will help to protect them. Another risk is that the wrong wavelength can cause permanent damage. We are highly experienced with the use of lasers and can take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety and effective treatment.

With laser dentistry, we can greatly improve your quality of care for many different procedures, which helps to more effectively optimize your oral health. Call Mettler & Griego Family Dentistry at (623) 562-5230 to learn more and schedule your appointment today.
